Bangladesh Society for Pharmaceutical Professionals (BSPP) organized a scientific seminar titled “Biosimilar: The Next Generation Therapeutic” at Hotel Studio 23, Kawran Bazar, Dhaka on Aug 16, 2025.
The seminar was presided over by Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Mahmud, PhD, President of BSPP and former Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka.
The event was conducted by Sheikh Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director of Sodical Chemical. Other key BSPP members in attendance included ABM Jamaluddin (Vice President, BSPP), Dr. Ansarul Islam, PhD (Secretary General, BSPP), Mohammad Omar Faruk (Finance Secretary, BSPP), and Mahbub Mawla (Joint Secretary General, BSPP).
The Chief Guest was Dr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI) and Managing Director of Delta Pharma Limited. The Special Guest was Major General (Retd.) Md. Mustafizur Rahman, CEO of BAPI and former Director General of DGDA.
Keynote presentations were delivered by eminent scientists Dr. Mohammad Murshedul Alam, PhD, and Dr. Abdul Haque, PhD, who discussed the scientific background of biosimilars, their global healthcare significance, and the potential for Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry.
The seminar saw participation from technical personnel of leading pharmaceutical companies, including Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., AristoPharma Ltd., Synovia Pharma PLC, Opsonin Pharma Ltd., The Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals Industry PLC, Delta Pharma Ltd., Bio Pharma Ltd., NIP Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and Everest Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Participants received certificates to further enhance their professional skills and scientific engagement.
Dr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain thanked BSPP for organizing the seminar on such an important topic and highlighted the value of future collaborations between industry professionals and academia. He also assured full support from BAPI.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks and closing remarks by Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Mahmud, PhD, President of BSPP.
